‘Destiny 2’ Needed To Make This Artifact Change Six Seasons Ago

At the risk of sounding like a broken record, I thought it was time to bring this up again, given the fact that we are finishing up six seasons of having a seasonal artifact in Destiny 2, and practically nothing about the system has changed since launch, other than the individual mods.

While I’ve liked the seasonal artifact to a certain extent, allowing more interesting builds through its mods, and recently, the ability to turn exotics into anti-champion weapons, there is one thing that I cannot fathom why it hasn’t been changed since launch.

You may already know what I’m talking about. That would be the inability to pick more than 12 mods at a time, and to get new mods, you need to respec the entire thing for an increasing amount glimmer each time, picking another 12 mods and giving up some others. And the way the “progression” system works, by the time you reach the last column, you can only pick two of those.

Just…give us all the damn mods.

The way the seasonal artifact should work is that you eventually get as many unlocks as there are mods, so you can have all of them available at once instead of picking 12 out of 25.

Look, I understand maybe why Bungie did this initially, as they didn’t know how these new mods would go and they worried about stacking too many at a time to break the game.

But six seasons later, not only has that not happened, it seems pretty clear it’s almost impossible that it can happen, even if players had all 25 unlocked a time. Why? Space and energy availability.

Out of these 25 mods we have:

13 arms mods (that fit into 2 slots on arms) 8 class item mods (that fit into 2 slots on class items) 2 chest mods 1 leg mod 1 helmet mod

The point is, you physically cannot stack these together in any “broken” way even if you had access to all of them because there simply isn’t space. And even trying to combine two powerful mods together like the last rows rarely works. The only pair that fits there is Focusing Lens (3 energy) and anything else because all the rest are 6 energy. So you can never combine two six energy ones together, even if you had access to every mod in that row at the same time. And even to do that, you are giving up almost all other mods on that entire item, short of something that costs 1 energy.

What is the point of the current system? All it does is subtract glimmer and make players a lot less likely to mess around with the full spectrum of mods they’ve crafted for the season because of how cumbersome and costly it is to respec. The way this is set up means that it is more or less impossible to break the game with “too much” stacking of these, and if there are OP problems, they’re likely still going to be there with or without unlocking all 25 (oppressive darkness, heavy finisher, etc).

I do not mind the seasonal artifact as a whole (grinding XP for power is another story, especially next season when the artifact is the primary source of power with the gear gap decreasing), but the way this system is set up makes no sense and has not since its inception. Bungie is all about evolving and growing Destiny, and yet for the life of me I don’t understand why almost nothing has changed about how seasonal artifacts work since they launched.
