How to move icons or create folders on your iPhone

Moving Apps

Your device will automatically sort your apps into alphabetical order for you: just enter Settings, General, Reset, then tap Reset Home Screen Layout. However, using this option may not sort apps in the way you want to, and will also set your dock (the apps on the bottom row which don’t change when you swipe the screen) to reset back to the norm. There are other ways for you to achieve a more personalised-looking home screen.

  1. Tap and hold your finger on and app until all apps begin shaking and a cross appears in the corner of each.
  2. When they begin shaking, drag and drop the app into whichever location you wish. Bear in mind that there can’t be empty spaces between apps, so it will automatically move into a space if there is one.
  3. To move the app onto another page, hold the app to the right or left of the screen until it automatically changes page for you.
  4. Take your finger off of the spot you want to leave the app in and it should fit into place.
  5. Press the home screen to send the apps back to normal. They should stop shaking.

Creating Folders

Another way of easily organising your apps is to have them in folders. This way if you have several games, travel apps, or the like, you can condense them all into the same folder. Doing so is simple.

  1. You’ll need at least two apps to create a folder.
  2. Tap and hold your finger on and app until all apps begin shaking and a cross appears in the corner of each.
  3. Drag the app on top of whichever one you want it to share a folder with. It should look as if they’re about to merge.
  4. Take your finger off and an enlarged folder with both apps in should appear.
  5. To rename the folder tap the automatic name and use the phone keyboard to change it.
  6. Tap outside of the folder to return to the home screen.
  7. To add more apps simply drag them into the folder.
  8. Press the home button to send the apps back to normal.
  9. If you wish to edit the folder again, tap and hold your finger on it until all apps begin shaking. Tap the folder again to make it enlarge.

Removing Apps From or Deleting a Folder

  1. Tap and hold your finger on and app until all apps begin shaking and a cross appears in the corner of each.
  2. Press the folder to enlarge it.
  3. Drag any apps you wish to remove outside of the folder and let go of your finger. It should be removed.
  4. Drag all apps outside of the folder to delete it completely.

Using these simple procedures, you should be able to organise your apps however you want to, making it easier to find and use each one.
