The newest version of Angry Birds is finally upon us. Angry Birds Rio, a tie-in with the animated movie Rio, hit the iTunes App Store late last night with 60 new levels based on the film, but starring those same famous peeved projectiles. Get the details below. Oh, and while you’re at it, there are other games in the App Store, too — you know, besides Angry Birds. Check out today’s pair that we thought you’d enjoy.

Angry Birds Rio (iPhone, iPad) $0.99

It’s finally here — the newest version of Angry Birds, in conjunction with Fox’s upcoming animated film Rio, offers a bit of a different take on the Angry Birds formula. Gone are the evil pigs who have stolen and eaten eggs from the birds; they’re replaced by a sinister force that has caged birds and brought them to Rio, and it’s up to you free them by launching some peeved avians at them.

The cool part about Angry Birds Rio is that it’s going to keep you busy for a while. Each set of levels in the game — there are 60 available when you download it today — is released episodically over the months leading to the movie’s release. That means each month from now until November, you get 30 new levels, for a buck. There are also new achievements to earn and “hidden fruits” to find scattered throughout the game.

Fruit Juice Tycoon 2 (iPhone, iPad) $1.99

The business of lemonade stands is cutthroat in Fruit Juice Tycoon 2, a time-management simulation game that rolls in features from other genres, as well. Spend some time building your fruit juice business, or engage in the role-playing aspects of the game as you explore the city and its various districts or upgrade your equipment. You can even compete against other players in a match-three style fruit-sorting game.

At the center of it all is Fruit Juice Tycoon 2’s story, in which you’ll work to take your business throughout the city and plan when and where to expand in order to get the most out of your stores. There’s even Game Center support so you can earn achievements and track your progress on online leaderboards.

Balliland XL (iPhone, iPad) $0.99

Puzzles in Balliland XL are deceptively simple. All you have to do is flick and move three balls around a grid until they line up single-file, touching one another. To make that happen, though, you’ll need to manipulate lots of objects around the grid to make sure the balls roll to where you want them to go — a ball will roll to the edge of the grid, for example, if you flick it with nothing in its way.

In order to achieve each level’s top score, you’ll also have to think about where you can roll the balls in order to collect coins scattered across each grid. Balliland requires you to think ahead and plan your moves, and also to have a good sense of timing so you can dodge other obstacles like saws and bombs. The game packs 120 levels that progress in difficulty.
