New iPhone apps worth downloading: Fantasy Football Buzzer, Vodio, Apocalypse Max

Here are three great iPhone apps to start off the new week. After all the weekend’s NFL action, keep up with your roster with Fantasy Football Buzzer. If you’re into video discovery, Vodio is a good choice when it comes to personalized recommendations and curation. Finally, another zombie slaying action game hit the App Store: Apocalypse Max boasts some great graphics and plenty of ways to destroy the undead.

Fantasy Football Buzzer (Free)

What’s it about? With football season well underway, this app lets you keep an eye on all your fantasy teams in one place.

What’s cool? Fantasy Football Buzzer lets you connect Yahoo!, ESPN, CBS, and NFL fantasy provider teams with one click (although it’s not affiliated with any of these sites). This makes it very adaptable because it offers automatic notifications on injuries, empty roster spots and recommendations on who to pick up and who to trade. News is catered to you and your players.

Who is it for? Fantasy Football Buzzer acts as a great “one stop shop” for the fantasy football enthusiast. It can be overwhelming keeping track of all your fantasy rosters so this app helps simplify things.

What’s it like? There are numerous fantasy football apps in the iTunes App Store, including Yahoo! Fantasy Football ‘12 and ESPN Fantasy Football 2012 as well as the NFL’s official offering.

Vodio Video Magazine (Free)

What’s it about? Vodio combines all your favorite video sources into one easy-to-use and navigate experience. It’s almost like a “Flipboard” for video consumption.

What’s cool? Vodio just got another update, but as we’ve never mentioned it before, we think it’s worth showcasing here. It lets you easily swipe through the different channels of content to discover the videos you want to see. Vodio learns from your behavior within the app, as well as your social activity, to provide personalized recommendations, and it’s all wrapped up in a slick and intuitive UI.

Who is it for? The app works on both iPhone and iPad, but it’s especially nice on the bigger-screen iPad. It makes browsing video content enjoyable as it constantly adapts to your tastes and takes into account what you’ve already viewed.

What’s it like? There are plenty of other ways of viewing curated video content on your iOS devices using apps like Showyou, Squrl Video Discovery and Frequency.

Apocalypse Max: Better Dead Than Undead ($2.99)

What’s it about? Apocalypse Max combines zombie slaying and acrobatic platforming to create an action-packed game full of shootin’ and slashin’.

What’s cool? The action is spread through 20 cartoon-style levels across nine perilous worlds and combines fast-paced gunplay with vicious hand-to-hand combat. You’ll encounter 16 wacky zombie types and 18 amazing weapons you can employ to destroy them.

Who is it for? Fans of side-scrollers, platformers and zombie games will enjoy Apocalypse Max, and its hand-drawn cartoon art style is visually impressive. Don’t like standing far away and spraying zombies with bullets? Get up close and personal and rip them apart with a combat knife instead!

What’s it like? Zombies are a huge draw in the iTunes App Store. Apocalypse Max is not unlike other popular zombie-slaying games like Zombieville USA or Ghost Ninja: Zombie Beatdown and a zillion others.
