FOX News brings signature style to iTunes App Store

Whether you like Fox News or hate Fox News, here’s one thing that can’t be debated: Fox News has a recently updated app that supports iPhone, iPod Touch and iPad.

If you’re looking to read your news, you can browse through Fox’s text articles via the horizontal scrolling category bar on the home screen (but no search function is to be found). After selecting an article, you can swipe through stories from left to right, without returning to the main page. You can also increase or decrease the story text with dedicated buttons on the lower toolbar. Normally, I’m a fan of pinch to zoom, but the buttons are a good alternative if you’ve got your hands full.

Video quality was surprisingly clear over the 3G network—however, some clips I tested completely froze, while others lost picture while the audio continued. Other clips played flawlessly, so your mileage may vary. There’s also a built-in weather widget that appears in the top left of the main screens—customize it to your city via the “more” tab. Here, you’ll also find access to your favorites as well as the streaming Fox Talk Radio.

Ads do appear across the screen throughout the app, but they’re easy to scroll past and no more intrusive than any other banners I’ve seen in free apps.
