Six-pack of iPhone apps for your journey to well-being

It’s your personal trainer, your therapist, your best friend and the one you turn to when times are rough, all rolled into one.

One, handy gadget that is — your iPhone.

There are a plethora of apps to improve well-being and treat your body right, waiting for you right in iTunes’ app store.

Here are some mood-lifting, body-loving app recommendations to get you started on the road to enlightenment.

Treat your body right apps

Exercise is an immediate mood-lifter for me. I always turn to running first when I’m feeling less than lively. I’m loving the new lolo Burn – Cardio app ($4.99), which is an interactive personal trainer that provides heart-pounding beats to match your workout level. Select your workout settings, such as walk versus run, length of workout and locale, and this app trainer adjusts your workout on the fly, and matches the music to your pace. The app also tracks results like calories burned, and gives you the option to listen to your own tunes.

And remember, your workout will go much better if you’re fueling your body with the right foods. To identify the most delicious and nutritious fuel for your body, check out the Caloricious app ($2.99). This is a simple way to identify what’s good and what’s bad about particular items on your local grocery store’s shelves. Information includes health benefits as well as nutrients and allergens. It’s the perfect app for searching for gluten-free or no-sugar items.

To calm your mind after a calorie-busting run, nothing soothes the soul like a stretch with yoga. Whether you are new to yoga or a master yogi, you will love the Authentic Yoga With Deepak Chopra and Tara Stiles app ($1.99). The videos with Deepak guide you through an understanding of yoga practice, and the lessons and routines with Tara illustrate the perfect yoga form to lust after and master.

Liven up your mood apps

Use the Live Happy app (99 cents) to create your personalized happiness program. This app takes you through a set of daily activities to boost your short- and long-term happiness. The app comes complete with a gratitude journal, and even syncs with social media sites so you can share your newfound joy with friends and family.

Nothing makes me smile like a jolly old Buddha. The Little Buddha’s 39,000 Quotes app (99 cents) lets you rub the Buddha belly for a daily dose of inspiration. Share the knowledge of the Buddha with friends on social networking sites or just cheer up co-workers by showing up at their desks and asking them to rub the Buddha belly  – in a non-harassing sort of way.

If you try all these apps and still aren’t feeling an enlightened sense of well-being, check out the Disconnect – With Andrew Johnson app ($2.99). Who hasn’t fallen asleep with a death grip on their iPhone? With my Touch, Droid X and laptop constantly near me, sometimes I forget to unplug. If you’re also addicted to tech, check out this app for a great way to, hopefully, find a greater sense of well-being through a peaceful slumber. It’s ironic that we need to plug into our tech to unplug from our tech.
