iPhones go green with Eco App from AT&T

iPhone service provider AT&T has launched an environmentally conscious mobile app. Eco App, or Eco Ally as the splash screen will tell you, is bare-bones in terms of content, but it does give AT&T the platform to prove its dedication to the environment.

Through Eco App, users can make donations to the Arbor Day Foundation. By sliding the bar to make your donation you’ll be able to see the impact of your donation. Via the Tree tab, you can watch a tree grow as more people make donations to the foundation. This is a cool idea, but the tree hasn’t moved since I installed the app, which means only 66 people have used the function. Sort of depressing, isn’t it?

Eco App also offers a ZIP code/GPS locator so users can find nearby recycling facilities for plastic, paper, metal, glass, electronic, household and automotive items and yard and hazardous materials. You can see locations on a map, get a street address, and call the venue in app. Aside from a weekly eco-tip or fact, that’s all the content Eco App offers.

AT&T is making a conscious effort to show its commitment to being green, but more content probably would draw more users — who might even help that tree grow.
