iPad game Kiko: The Last Totem HD is simple yet challenging

In Kiko: The Last Totem HD, the objective is to maneuver each “Kiko” (a cat-like creature) to their respective colored square positions throughout the map. The concept is simple, but the solutions can be incredibly difficult to figure out. All you have to do is flick each Kiko around the area, but the challenging part is figuring out which one to move first and how to use specific Kikos to help others get to their goal.

You can only move a Kiko up, down, left or right. When you flick a Kiko, it will continue to travel until it hits an obstacle such as a wall or rock. Each character is a specific color and must be maneuvered to its respective colored square in order to complete the level. Sometimes, this is a very simple task, but that’s not always the case.

Even on the easy levels, the puzzles can prove to be very challenging. In the later levels, you will need to set up other characters to help you get a specific Kiko to its goal. For example, maybe one character needs something to stop it from traveling past its square. You can move another character on one side of the square to stop the first Kiko from traveling past it. It can get incredibly difficult when you are trying to match up three or four characters to their goals. Just like chess, you really need to think a few steps ahead before you start making your moves. If you discover that you’ve just created a mess, you can restart a level as many times as you’d like.

The graphics and sound are absolutely top-notch in this game. With the exception of a minor audio looping issue, the game really pulls you in and gets you focusing on the task at hand. The puzzles may become frustrating, but you’ll feel it necessary to complete each one, rather than admit defeat. With over 150 puzzles in all, and a variety of difficulty levels, you’ll be playing for hours before you’ve beaten each one. If you’re into puzzle games, then this one is a must-own.
