Make gift-giving simpler with Karma iPhone app

I love finding perfect presents to celebrate life’s occasions, and I love even more that there’s now an app service available to help me do it. Karma, available for iPhone and iPod Touch, offers a pool of products ideal for every gift-giving situation, which can be bought in-app.

By linking your Facebook account to the app, Karma will pull in milestones such as birthdays, relationship updates or job changes so that you can send your congrats or best wishes in the form of a carefully-selected present. Gifts are divided into categories such as “foodie,” “quirky” and “romantic” and can be filtered by price. I tested the app with some of Karma’s free offerings for April Fools’ Day and was impressed with how smooth the process went.

After you’ve selected a gift you can choose from a variety of occasion-specific cards to share your sentiments. Select your recipient, pulled from your Facebook contacts list (or you can enter in a name on your own), and Karma will send a message via text, Facebook or email—your choice—that they have a gift waiting. The best part is that you don’t need to have your recipient’s mailing address to send a gift. Instead, they’ll provide Karma with their address upon notification. And don’t worry about remembering to send your Karma gift on a specific date. The app can do that for you via its calendar.

Karma will display your total and ask for your cell number and email address to contact you about your sent gift. The app tracks the progress of your gift so you can ensure that your recipient has read the card and accepted the item. You can also see if the item has shipped or been delivered. And, if your gift wasn’t a home run your giftee can swap it for something else available from Karma.

The only thing I didn’t love about Karma was some of its pricing. I suppose you’re paying for the ultimate in convenience, but if you’re a deal hound be sure to price compare before you buy, as many of the items can be found for less elsewhere.
