Busy moms get their own iPhone app

There’s a reason why most stay-at-home moms bristle at the notion that they’re “just a mom.” These are some seriously busy people. So busy, in fact, that they need their own specialized iPhone app to keep track of their children’s activities, their tasks, and their grocery lists.

Enter Intuition: Mom’s Assistant.

Unlike the 42 million organization-centric iPhone apps that can be found in the iTunes App Store (and many with some relatively hefty price tags), Intuition is simple and straightforward (and also rather pretty).

Upon opening the free iPhone app, you’re greeted by a pretty little flower, each colorful petal marked with a different aspect of organizing your time: “Nearby,” “Community,” “My Info,” “Calendar,” “Categories,” and “Locations.”

“Locations” lists your tasks by the locations us moms must frequent: “Supermarket,” “Home,” “School,” “Work” and “Anywhere” (because we do more than go to the grocery store and cart our kids around).

Within the “Locations” category, if you choose “Supermarket,” you’re given a nice list of commonly purchased items that can be added to your grocery list with a tap. The other locations allow you to add tasks with all necessary information, and categorize them appropriately.

“Community” brings you to a list of tips for home, entertaining, kids, and more. You can suggest tips by emailing the iPhone app’s developers.

Add a task to one of your locations, and it is automatically added to the Calendar.  Two-way syncing between iCal and Google calendar and the app calendar is promised in future updates.

I don’t quite get “Nearby.” Presumably, if you add an address to, for instance, your Supermarket in “Locations,” you would see that location marked on your “Nearby” map. For some reason, however, my “Nearby” seems to believe that my Supermarket is located at my house, and I cannot seem to get that address changed (though it would be mighty convenient to have the supermarket in my yard) without deleting “Supermarket” as a location and then adding it again. If you shop at multiple supermarkets, they’re each going to have to be added as a separate location.

“Categories” allows you to create tasks that are not location-based (like phone calls you need to make or emails to send).

Email and push notifications are handy features when it comes to a to-do list. I’ve often joked that I’d get out of bed and wander around aimlessly if my iPhone didn’t tell me what to do.

“Sharing” allows you to post your to-do list to Facebook or Twitter or email it to a friend (especially handy if you need to email your husband the grocery list so he can stop on the way home from work).

Promised updates include that ability to sync the Intuition calendar with iCal and Google calendar mentioned above, more “sharing options,” and coupons available right from the iPhone app.

Overall, Intuition: Mom’s Assistant is a nice time management tool. It’s not going to be your go-to iPhone app for organizing complicated projects, but for keeping your mom-life organized, it’s fine. With the promised updates, it’ll be great.
