H&R Block Tax Answers iPhone app won’t file your return, but could help ease the process

Tax season is officially upon us. You should have received all your W-2s and 1099s by now (if you didn’t, your employer is in trouble) and that means its time to sit down and crunch those numbers, sort through that shoebox of receipts and get really, really frustrated. Sadly, the H&R Block Tax Answers iPhone app (free) won’t actually file a return for you, but you can rely on the app for some help.

Users who register for an account can use Tax Answers to ask questions of H&R Block’s stable of experienced tax professionals, and receive an answer back in an average of 24 hours. Previously asked questions are also available for perusal, so you can see if someone else is having the same tax conundrum. Questions can be browsed via category, popularity and recentness, but there is no actual search function, which makes it difficult to find what you’re looking for. Because the “Ask” section lacks user intuitiveness, it’s very possible H&R Block will be inundated with common questions, leading to longer wait times for inquiring minds.

Although the Ask section has potential to be helpful, I found the “Tax Terms Glossary” the most appealing. I found it to be fairly complete and something I’ll appreciate having by my side when it’s time to start on my 1040 form.
