5800+ Drink & Cocktail Recipes offers a drink, or 10, for every occasion

5800+ Drink & Cocktail Recipes lives up to its name. I didn’t actually count the available recipes but the archive, indexed similarly to how an iPod lists music, packs more drinks than anyone should consume in a lifetime.

From the common Sex on the Beach to the underappreciated Gilligan’s Island (1 oz vodka, 1 oz peach schnapps, 3 oz orange juice and 3 oz cranberry juice), it would be a challenge to create a drink that isn’t listed here. Each recipe has the required ingredients followed by simple instructions for adding them together.

If you get bored of scrolling through the list, there are three options to look up drinks. The “Category” option groups drinks into simple, if lazy, categories such as “Ordinary Drink” or “Other/Unknown.”

More conveniently, you can search for drink ideas by ingredient. Pick out the ingredients you want and 5800+ Drink & Cocktail Recipes pulls up a list of drinks featuring those ingredients.

The app falters slightly in this option. While you can easily tap the screen to add your first ingredient, adding a second requires a click from the ingredient list and then back into the edit function. It seems like an oversight not to simply add multiple ingredients at a time.

Finally, you can click the random drink button, which picks one drink out of all the available choices. I gave this a whirl and wound up with the surprisingly delicious Wild Wild West, a mix of Jack Daniels, peach schnapps and cranberry juice.

5800+ Drink & Cocktail Recipes comes in two versions, a free app with ads along the top and a 99-cent option without the ads. I used the free version and found the ads frustrating.

Pay the buck and invite a few friends over to share in the mirth of making the Wile E. Coyote or K-Dawg’s Apple Pie. Just don’t text anybody once you get started. Trust me.
